Alaska Haskap Farm was dreamt into existence during the winter of 2020-21. Covid was at the height of changing all of our lives and we were using the time to actively explore the next evolution of ourselves and careers, specifically involving the land we steward. While studying Permaculture in an on-line & live class, the idea seeds were planted and the dream to grow a small ‘Northern Super Berry Farmstead and Food Forest’ began.

We now have three Haskap Orchards planted and two more prepared for planting this season. We have Saskatoons planted on the borders of our orchards and a Raspberry and Strawberry garden going in this year. We have ducks and chickens- who are the best little farm helpers providing pest control, compost processing, mulch making, and daily entertainment.

While we continue to grow and build the farm, we also patiently await our first commercial crop, expected 2025. Haskap and Saskatoons need a couple years to bear fruit, but up to five years to reach a commercial crop level of berries produced. In our initial research days, we discovered Haskapa’s website and really connected with their approach to farming Haskaps and the medicinal research they participated in. The more we learned about these berries, the more we loved them and we signed on for a monthly order of Haskap Berry Powder and incorporated it into our daily lives.

Fast forward three years and hundreds of hours studying, eating, drinking and talking about these berries, we’ve basically discovered that we couldn’t get a product to the market fast enough. There is a very strong desire for a nutrient dense and delicious berry that can be available year round and people do not want to wait years to gain access.

Haskapas Freeze Dried Haskap Berry Powder is the best possible answer and we are excited to partner with them. This will be our first available product and we look forward to carrying it indefinitely. Alaska Haskap Farm will never produce the amount of berries it would take to freeze dry them and will instead offer seasonally fresh berries to our community and create smaller batch specialty products which we will add to our store as they become available.
